Dive into the fascinating history of King Richard III born on this day 574 years ago and found in a Leicestershire carpark in 2012.
Talk by Jenny Moran who was the manager of the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland from 2008-2022, the archive holding material relevant to the discovery. She now works in the Information Governance Team at Sheffield City Council.

Talk by Rachel Walker. Don Catchment Rivers Trust is a charity protecting and restoring the rivers of the Don Catchment. In a river system so modified by engineers and industry, yet on the way to ecological recovery, the work of the Trust is always varied. Rachel Walker will talk about the role of the Trust, weaving in some of her archaeological transferable skills along the way!

This presentation by Michael Pisz will introduce the concept of Dark Heritage Prospection, outline why existing frameworks within archaeology and forensics might not be, on their own, sufficient for studying intentionally hidden or politically charged heritage.

This year we are working with the Historic Towns Trust to focus on Yorkshire Towns through the Ages. You can hear about towns and cities from across the county, from Sheffield to Scarborough, in different historical periods, and discuss how maps can be used as a tool to represent these stories – among much else.
Bookings are now open and details of the event can be found on the Society’s website.
Tickets are £20 (£10 for students) and lunch is available as an optional extra for £15.

CBA East Midlands – A Celebration of Volunteer Archaeology

The success of community archaeology depends on the leadership of professionals and the enthusiasm of amateurs. Daryl Garton was a shining example of such a professional. This meeting, supported by Ice Age Insights and CBA East Midlands, aims to highlight the work of Daryl and her co-professionals and volunteers.
The day starts with a walk around Bradgate Park, led by archaeologists and geologists. Bring your own lunch, but teas, coffees and cake will be provided. This is followed by a series of short talks in the afternoon.
