YAHS History Conference in York on 1 November

The Yorkshire Archaeological and Historical Society held its second day conference on 1 November, this time in the Friends’ Meeting House in York – an excellent central venue.
The programme of talks was an eclectic mix of topics ranging from Richard Cobden to the WWl Battle of Scarborough, from St William of York’s canonization in 1226 to connections between Brittany and Richmond, from evidence of women’s investment from Registers of Deeds to domestic service in Harrogate. All were fascinating and well presented. Who knew that Constance Duchess of Brittany also ruled over the Honour of Richmond in the 12th century, or that 20 shipwrecks off Scarborough are being researched. Don’t miss the next conference, hopefully next year.
